Leah Bennet is the director and founder of LPD Karlup, an Aboriginal homewares company aiming to bring Indigenous culture into contemporary design in a versatile and highly esteemed manner. Leah is also a proud Wudjari Noongar woman with family ties to the Ravensthorpe region.
Leah has been in the design industry since 2018 having completed a Bachelor of Design, in commercial interior design with Billy Blue College of Design. In 2021, she ventured out on her own, with Leah Paige Designs, an interior and furniture design company focused on bringing Aboriginal culture into contemporary spaces. However, after noticing a lack of versatile Aboriginal homewares suitable to fit into any contemporary home, she branched out into homewares, creating LPD Karlup.
Growing up, Leah was not always aware of her heritage and unfortunately was not able to receive cultural knowledge directly from her family and ancestors. However, this has only given Leah more drive and passion to achieve her goal of seeing Aboriginal culture brought into homes all over Australia.
For Leah, it is time to turn our eyes to the past to create the Australian design movement of the future.
